Instructions for use of the COVID-19 antigen detection kit – nasal swab
The novel coronaviruses belong to the β-genus. COVID-19 is an acute respiratory infectious disease. Humans are generally susceptible. Currently, patients infected with the novel coronavirus are the main source of infection; however, asymptomatic carriers can also be sources of infection. Based on current epidemiological research, the incubation period is 1 to 14 days, most commonly 3 to 7 days. The most common symptoms include fever, a dry cough, and fatigue. In some cases, aches and pains, sore throat, diarrhea, conjunctivitis, headache, loss of taste or smell, rash, or discoloration of the fingers or toes have also been reported. Severe symptoms include difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, chest pain or pressure, loss of speech, or loss of mobility. Without timely medical intervention, COVID-19 cases can lead to serious complications or even death.
PURPOSE OF USE
This product is suitable for people with COVID-19-like symptoms, such as cough, fever, fatigue, etc., to support the early diagnosis of a SARS-CoV-2 infection. It can also be used to test people without COVID-19 symptoms to regularly monitor their health.
TEST PRINCIPLE
The COVID-19 Antigen Detection Kit is an immunochromatographic membrane test that uses highly sensitive monoclonal antibodies to detect the nucleocapsid protein of SARS-CoV-2. The test strip consists of the following components: the sample pad, the reagent pad, the reaction membrane, and the absorber pad. The reagent pad contains colloidal gold conjugated to the monoclonal antibody against the nucleocapsid protein of SARS-CoV-2; the reaction membrane contains the secondary antibodies for the nucleocapsid protein of SARS-CoV-2. The entire strip is fixed in a plastic holder. When the sample is placed in the sample well, the conjugates absorbed in the reagent pad dissolve and migrate with the sample. If SARS-CoV-2 antigen is present in the sample, the complex of the anti-SARS-CoV-2 conjugate and the virus is captured by the specific monoclonal anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies coated on the test line region (T). The absence of the T line indicates a negative result. As a procedural control, a red line always appears in the control line region (C), indicating that the correct sample volume was added and the membrane wicking effect has occurred.
PRECAUTIONS BEFORE USING THE PRODUCT
